This country being described is not a country in the modern sense of the word, but rather, refers to an earlier period in Nepal’s history when there were many provinces or territories ruled by local kings. I have replaced this opening phrase with the more colloquial English opening phrase of standard folk tales, Once upon a time which undoubtedly will be more familiar to many readers.
